General Class info/introduction:

Last term Maple Class enjoying covering the topics of ‘Let there be light’ and ‘Greece is the word’.  We had great fun dressing up as Greek children and making/tasting Greek foods.  For the Art Exhibition we re-created the work of a Greek artists and used mosaic tiles to make vase pictures.  We enjoyed making dark dens to explore light using torches and light activated equipment.  We learnt about the different types of light sources and focused on their brightness.  We also learnt that by blocking light we can make shadows – we all enjoyed making our own shadows, some of us even used our hands to make shadows of rabbits.

We have been working very hard in our Maths and English lessons.  Learning about numbers, shape space and measures.  On Thursday we enjoy our ‘fun maths’ sessions when we use our learnt skills to play games with each other.

In English we continue to practice our hand writing skills, enjoy listening to stories, completing matching work and learning about phonics.  Last term we enjoying playing team games in P.E.  Some of the children were very competitive and didn’t like to lose but we all shook hands after the games and said ‘well done’ to each other.  Swimming is a popular lesson enjoyed by all.  We continue with our extra curriculum activities at lunch times.  Monday’s we have a choice of playing in the adventure playground or taking part in Band Club.  On Tuesday’s we all take part in Dance Club, dancing to music using resources such as ribbons, scarves and balloons.   Thursday’s is Art Club day where we work together with other classes to enhance our creative skills.   Wednesday’s and Friday’s we take part in class based activities which involve music, playdough, painting and singing.

We are all rested after the Easter break and are looking forward to working hard again this term.  Our topic is called ‘Circle of Life’ and we will be growing vegetables, herbs and planting flower seeds.  We will be learning about the different parts of the plants and taking part in experiments to see which grow the fastest and tallest.   After half term we will be learning about Animals and Humans, focusing on the foods that they eat as well as looking at the human skeleton.   In P.E. we will be focusing on Athletics in preparation for Sports Day.  We will also be looking forward to our end of school year trip – which will be arranged soon.
