Spruce Class

Class Name: Spruce

Class Teacher: Alison Copley

Term: Summer 2018

Date Completed: 18 April 2018

General Class info/introduction:

Spruce class have just completed the ‘Let there be Light’ topic which has included exploring sources of light, dark and shadows. We made note of light and shadow changes during the course of the day by chalking out our shadows on the playground. We noticed how the shadows of ourselves changed during the day. We have also been developing or Art Awards portfolios by extending our learning of light and dark using art as another gateway to learning. Vincent van Gogh ‘s painting’ Starry Night’ was used as a starting point. Everyone in our Class, enjoyed mixing ingredients for star shaped biscuits for our school celebration of Harvest. In the Easter Assembly we had great fun playing air guitars and celebrating the joy of Easter.

Looking forward, our Summer topic is ‘Circle of Life’. Our core books are ‘The Tiny Seed’, ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and Jack and the Beanstalk’.

Our learning will focus mainly on the growth cycles of plants and animals. We will be making the most of the sunny weather by planting fruit and flower seeds. We will learn how to look after them to encourage growth and also learn what happens to these living things if they don’t have enough sunlight and water. We are all keen to take our own flowers and plants home! We will also investigate the meaning of healthy eating and make a range of fruit salads, smoothies and other scrummy yummy foods.

Like you, we are looking forward to enjoying sunny weather this term!
